Looking to give your business a boost? Here are some more tips to pick things up!
You have to run your business with a constant mindset on growth, whether you’re just starting out and are pushing to see your business blossom or you’re an experienced screen printer knowing that you constantly have to be on the lookout for new clients to maintain or steadily grow your production and your profit.
Knowing how to keep your business moving forward isn’t always easy. Sometimes it can feel like you’ve exhausted your playbook for finding new business. With that in mind, here are 7 more ways you can grow your screen printing business. Missed the first 7? Check them out here.
1. Consistently seek sales
You might always be on the lookout for new clients, but how often do you work on your sales plan? How many potential clients are you reaching out to every day? Every week? The key to achieving consistent production levels and consistent growth is to have a sales strategy that has you consistently seeking new clients. Create a plan that designates how many potential clients you will call, introduce yourself to or send out your sales packet to every day and every week. Putting the legwork into your business day after day, week after week is one of the best ways to keep your business growing.
2. Follow up with your existing clients
It’s far easier, and less expensive, to keep an existing client than it is to earn a new client. As you consistently seek new clients, make sure you also have a plan for consistently working to retain your existing clients. Have an email list and send out regular newsletters. Create an incentive program that gives discounts to return customers. Know your customers’ ordering cycles so you can reach out to them when you know they’re due to purchase. Not only will these efforts keep your company on your customers’ minds, but they’ll help your customers know that their business is important to you.
3. Create a referral program
Your customers can be some of your business’s best champions. Create a referral program that rewards them for bringing you new customers. Don’t forget to publicize your referral program; your customers can’t take advantage of it if they don’t know about it!
4. Expand your offerings
From business owners to community leaders, people love one-stop shopping. Expanding the items you offer can increase how much your existing customers purchase, and it can attract new customers who want multiple products without dealing with multiple printers. To decide what to offer, take stock of your customers and what they purchase now and think about what other products they might be interested in. Businesses who come to you for corporate apparel could very well be interested in coffee mugs and pens, while sports teams might be interested in water bottles and duffle bags.
5. Keep learning about your craft
Screen printing is always evolving. New products and techniques emerge, and trends in screen printed apparel are always changing. Stay on top of industry news, research new inks and techniques, and keep your eyes open to see what items and garments are popular, or likely to become popular, with your customers or potential customers. Staying on top of trends and techniques will help you keep your products relevant and your business growing.
6. Take advantage of leasing or financing
One of the biggest leaps a business can take is investing in the equipment it needs to meet customer demand and grow production. When you’re ready to grow your business, don’t be afraid to take advantage of the leasing or financing options to help you get the equipment you need to take your screen printing business to the next level.

7. Stay visible
One of the worst mistakes an established business can make is to get complacent. Once they’ve done the marketing legwork, obtained clients and made a name in their community, it can be easy to assume that the reputation they’ve worked so hard to create will keep their business growing. But if you’re not working to keep your business’s name in the minds of potential customers, that reputation can fade. Keep sponsoring local teams and community events, be involved in local organization, attend trade shows where potential customers are likely to gather, keep advertising and keep working your social media sites. All of those efforts to stay visible will ensure that when a potential client needs a screen printer, your screen printing business will be the first one that comes to mind.
Proactively working to keep your business growing is what will keep your screen printing business moving forward. That means having strategies in place — sales strategies, retention strategies, training strategies and marketing strategies — and consistently working those strategies are going to be what makes the difference in keeping your screen printing business growing.
