Preparation

When it comes to t-shirt screen printing, preparation is key. At Anatol, we understand the importance of getting every detail right before you start the printing process. Start by selecting the t-shirts you’ll be printing on. The quality and fabric of the t-shirt can significantly affect the final print, so choose wisely. Cotton is a popular choice due to its excellent ink absorption.

Next, ensure your workspace is clean and organized. Any dust or debris can ruin your print. Gather all necessary materials and prepare your equipment, including your screen printing machine, ink, squeegees, and emulsion. Properly preparing these materials and organizing them carefully for the job at hand will streamline the printing process and reduce the risk of errors.

Print Film

The next step is to create your film positives. Film positives are transparent sheets that contain your design in black ink. This film will be used to transfer your design onto the screen. Creating high-quality film positives ensures that your design will be crisp and clear.

To create the film positive, you can use a laser printer or an inkjet printer. Make sure the black ink is opaque enough to block light during the exposure process. Once printed, double-check your design for any imperfections. Remember, any flaws in the film positive will be transferred to the final print, so it’s crucial to get this step right.

Move the Image to the Screen

Now, it’s time to transfer your design to the screen. Coat the front and back of your screen with a layer of UV-sensitive emulsion and let it dry in a dark room to prevent premature exposure. Once dry, take your coated screen and film positive to your exposure unit. Place the film on the glass of the exposure unit, then place the screen on top of the film. Next, expose the screen to UV light, which will harden the emulsion everywhere except where the light is blocked by the black ink on your film positive. The areas covered by the black ink on your film positive will stay soft and washable.

After exposure, rinse the screen with water to wash away the unhardened emulsion. This will reveal your design on the screen. Ensure that the screen is thoroughly dried before moving on to the next step. The precision of this process will impact the quality of your final print.

Set Up the Screen Printing Machine

Setting up your screen printing machine correctly is essential for producing high-quality prints. At Anatol, we offer a range of screen printing machines that cater to various needs and budgets. Begin by securing your screen onto the printing press. Make sure it is aligned, or registered, correctly to avoid any misprints.

Adjust the off-contact distance, which is the space between the screen and the t-shirt. The right off-contact distance allows for a clean release of the screen from the t-shirt, resulting in a crisp print. Also, ensure that your squeegee is in good condition and suitable for the type of ink you’re using.

Start Printing

With everything set up, you’re ready to start printing. After applying pallet tape and adhesive, place your t-shirt on the pallet of your screen printing press, ensuring it is smooth and flat. Apply a generous amount of ink to the screen and use the squeegee to spread it evenly across the design. The pressure and angle of the squeegee are crucial for a consistent print, so take your time to perfect this technique.

After printing, cure the ink using a conveyor dryer to ensure it adheres properly to the t-shirt. This step is vital for the durability of the print. Finally, inspect your printed t-shirt for any imperfections and make adjustments as needed for subsequent prints.

By following these steps, you can achieve high-quality t-shirt screen prints that stand out. At Anatol, we are committed to providing you with the best screen printing machines and equipment to help you succeed in your screen printing endeavors.
